The new movie, DUNE: PART TWO, cost 190 million dollars to make, and it’s already earned about twice that amount at the box office. But I’m not one of the many people who love it. Based on the 1965 novel by Frank Herbert, DUNE: PART TWO is a pretentious science fiction epic with grandiose cinematography, bombastic music, and thunderous sound effects. Set on desert planet far into the future, this overly long fantasy has such a complicated plot that I couldn’t completely follow it. The film does have some spectacular visual effects. But I had a hard time sitting through 2 hours and forty six minutes of what to me was just another disappointing super hero movie. (In theaters)
