Filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen have written and directed 20 feature films together including FARGO, THE BIG LEBOWSKI, and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. But Ethan Coen wrote and directed DRIVE-AWAY DOLLS with his wife Tricia Cooke instead of his brother, and the result is a mildly amusing but wildly uneven comedy about two lesbians driving to Tallahassee Florida with two inept criminals giving chase. (In theaters) At the other end of the spectrum is PERFECT DAYS, a meditative film about a middle aged man who earns his living cleaning public toilets in Tokyo. Koji Yokusho stars as a man who takes pride in his job and finds beauty and peace in his ordinary life. Made by Wim Wenders, the famous German filmmaker, PERFECT DAYS has been nominated for Best International Feature Film. (Kahala Mall and Dole Cannery)
