HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - With Tax Day April 15th right around the corner, we’re going to learn how to protect ourselves against Tax Scams from financial fraud artists.

Tax scams are where people pretending to be from the IRS try to steal from you. Either by getting you to pay them, stealing your tax refund or obtaining your private financial information to commit fraud.

The first thing to know is, the IRS will never call you to demand immediate payment. So if anyone ever calls you and says they’re from the IRS and you need to pay immediately using a credit card, debit card or wire transfer hang up immediately.

The IRS will never threaten to bring in local police, immigration officers or other law enforcement to have someone arrested for not paying, so if anyone calls to threaten you, revoke your business license or driver’s license, it’s a scam.
