The word makahiki also refers to a traditional season that lasts four months from mid-October and mid-February.
Used in a sentence “Ua hiki mai ka wa makahiki,he wa e ho’omaha ai i ke kino” which is translated as “Makahiki season has arrived, it is the time to care for your body."
The Makahiki season was filled with sports and religious festivities and a ban on war during this time. Makahiki is a time to let the 'aina and your body rest to prepare for the upcoming year.
