Kyle Chinen

If you’ve been to a sporting event here in the islands, then you’ve probably seen Kyle Chinen running up and down the sidelines with his camera.
Chinen is Hawaii News Now’s sports multimedia journalist and joined Hawaii News Now in 2020.
During his short time at HNN, Chinen has covered a March Madness tournament, two NCAA men’s volleyball Championships and has told countless stories on local athletes that call these islands home.
Chinen Interned with HNN in the Summer of 2019, before earning his degree in Digital Communication and Photography from Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa.
While in the Midwest, Chinen played football for the Briar Cliff Chargers while being a key part in the revamp of the school’s online news site, Cliffnews.net. He also served as the social media director of the school's student-run radio station, BCU Radio.
A graduate of Mililani High School, Chinen was a part of the school’s morning bulletin team where he delivered daily announcements and the occasional pun. He lettered in football and was a part of Mililani’s undefeated 2014 HHSAA state championship team.
Chinen will continue to shine a light on the local sports teams and athletes that make his home state so unique.
