Next phase of Skyline to be energized; hours also extended for West Fest
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - In another major milestone, Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation officials are preparing to energize another section of the Skyline route.
HART announced that on June 17, the ‘third rail’ of the next section would be powered up. This section covers tracks from Aloha Stadium Station to Middle Street.
Energizing the line allows for the next phases of testing to commence. Trains will start moving soon from the stadium to the airport, Pearl Harbor and Middle Street.
This segment of Skyline is expected to open to the public in late 2025.
HART stressed that the energized third rail carries 750 volts of electricity, and provides power to the trains. Any contact with the third rail line will likely be fatal, officials said, and areas of the project remain active work zones.
Trespassing on rail facilities and in work zones is prohibited.
HART also reminds the public that the system is equipped with 1,500 security cameras.

Meanwhile, HART also announced Friday that Skyline hours would be extended for West Fest happening this weekend.
Rail will be in operation on June 15 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. for riders to make it out to the West Side. Once at the Kualakaʻi East Kapolei station, passengers can then catch a free event trolley on Keahumoa Parkway provided by Ka Makana Alii to the event. HART also suggests utilizing TheBus route 416.
