HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Emergency slope stabilization in the wake of heavy rains will trigger lane closures on two major highways Wednesday and Thursday, officials said.

The first closure is set for Wednesday night: Kailua-bound lanes of Kalanianaole Highway from Kamehameha Highway to Kapaa Quarry Road will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. The state DOT said crews will conduct slope stabilization to prevent landslides and remove loose soil.

Then on Thursday morning, one Honolulu-bound lane will close on Pali Highway just after the tunnels. A section of slope stabilization fabric will be reinstalled following the heavy rains.

Drivers are urged to plan accordingly and consider alternate routes.

All the islands except the Island of Hawaii are under a flood watch as a kona low approaches the island chain, bringing the threat of more heavy rains.
