Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii prepares for annual ‘Great Futures Day’
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - More than 3,800 keiki on Oahu and Kauai rely on Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii, and not just their after school programs.
Many children who receive a meal at local club houses may not get another meal that day until they go back to school the next day.
”We know that for many of the young people we serve, this is a literal lifeline and something they depend on to stay healthy,” said Inglish Jones, Development Director for Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii.
There are nine club houses between Oahu and Kauai and they also serve as resources hubs for families in need with some functioning food and clothing distribution centers for their communities.
Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii relies on the support of everyday people but has also been fortunate to receive large donations from big names who believe in the mission — like MMA Champion Max Holloway.
”Earlier this year, we opened the Max Holloway Fitness Center in Waianae. This is the first UFC-branded gym in any Boys & Girls Club worldwide. Our Waianae kids were so excited to meet Max and learn self-defense and the importance of team-building,” Jones said.
She added while those big donations are crucial, and so are the smaller donations from local people who are willing to help.
Community members are invited to pitch in as the organization works toward their goal of raising $530,000 in 2024.
The club’s annual Great Futures Day launches Wednesday, but you can donate now by clicking here.
