Registration opening this week for popular Summer Fun program
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Heads up, parents! Registration for the popular Summer Fun program opens this week.
Registration begins Monday for District 1 which is East Honolulu. More districts will open up throughout the week.
Officials said that registration will be held online through the Parks and Recreation website at pros.hnl.info.
This year’s registration fee is $25 per keiki, with an additional activity fee of no more than $100 for participating sites that offer extra-curricular activities such as an excursion to Kualoa Regional Park. Officials say all combined fees will not exceed $125 per keiki.
The City is continuing to offer registration and activity fee waivers for qualifying families and neighborhoods.
Keiki 6 years old before August and no older than 13 years old by July 28, 2024, are welcome to join the program.
Registration for keiki begins May 13 based on geographic park districts:
- District 1 (East Honolulu): May 13 from 5 p.m.
- District 2 (West Honolulu): May 14 from 5 p.m.
- District 3 (Leeward Oahu): May 15 from 5 p.m.
- District 4 (Windward & North Oahu): May 16 from 5 p.m.
- District 5 (Central Oahu): May 17 from 5 p.m.
Those without access to a computer or internet, are encourage to call the Summer Fun location where they wish to sign-up to coordinate registration.
The program, which has served keiki since World War II, has become the largest in the state.
It can accommodate 10,000 kids with a staff of 500 across 60 locations around Oahu.
The program offers a wide range of activities for keiki, including trips to Hanauma Bay and Kualoa Regional Park. It has an affordable registration fee of just $25. Additional activity fees of no more than $100 are charged for extracurricular activities. Families in lower-income areas can apply for a fee waiver.
The program will run on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and begins June 10 through July 26.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi is challenging parents with children old enough to be a program leader to encourage them to apply for a position.
Teens looking for a summer job can apply for the eight-week program with a minimum pay of $16 per hour and work just under 40 hours per week.
Junior leaders must be 13 years old before August 2024 and no older than 17 by July 28, 2024.
