Adaptive Surf Championships to return to Waikiki, welcoming athletes from 18 countries
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Athletes from across the globe are preparing to hit the waters for AccesSurf’s 2024 Hawaii Adaptive Surfing Championships next week at Queen’s Beach in Waikiki.
The highly-anticipated competition starts on Monday, May 13 through Wednesday, May 16.
The competition has grown considerably over the years and features some of the sport’s top athletes from around the world.
Organizers say athletes from at least 18 different countries are participating in this year’s championships.
”We’re excited to host The Hawaii Adaptive Surfing Championships and provide a platform for adaptive surfers to demonstrate their skills and passion for the sport,” said Cara Short, Executive Director at AccesSurf.
“This event is not only about competition but also about fostering community and spreading awareness about adaptive surfing.”
The championships rely on volunteers and AccesSurf Staff that organize the event and help athletes in and out of the water. The organization says they are always looking for people to help.

”We couldn’t do this without our awesome volunteers. It’s a big Ohana when we have the championships down here and we can’t thank them enough for all that they do,” said Rich Julian, an adaptive surfer and co-founder of AccesSurf Hawaii.
The welcome ceremony for the Hawaii Adaptive Surfing Championships will take place on May 13 at 5 p.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Statue in Waikiki.
The competition itself will be held at Queens Surf Break in Waikiki.
