HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Aspire to be a firefighter? Now’s your chance to make that dream come into fruition.

The Honolulu Fire Department announced applications will be open from April 14 to 16, or until the department receives 4,500 recruit applications.

HFD says the minimum requirements to become a firefighter in Hawaii are:

  • 18 years old
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Hawaii State Driver’s License (Type 3) Prior to Appointment

But most importantly, they’re looking for individuals who are passionate about helping the community, mentally tough, physically fit and have grit.

For anyone that’s unsure, HFD will also be holding an in-person recruiting event on Saturday, April 13.

The event will go on from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with 30 minutes sessions including hose-handling demonstrations, a panel discussion and resource hub.

You must be 16 years or older to participate in the event. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
