‘It’s been amazing’: Rainbow Warrior receivers are brothers on and off the field
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The University of Hawaii football team refers to themselves as the Braddahhood.
The team going through the grind of training camp as they build a family-like bond.
However, for receivers Pofele Ashlock and Jarvis Heimuli, the familial bond was built long before they got to Manoa.
“You know, actually having my brother and my blood brother out here, it’s been amazing,” UH receiver Pofele Ashlock told Hawaii News Now. “You know, he’s keeping me sane, you know what I mean? , just getting to talk to him.”
Incoming freshman Heimuli is the younger brother of the ‘Bows’ breakout star Ashlock from a year ago.
Heimuli taking every opportunity to learn on and off of the field.
“I’m learning from him, you know, he’s highly successful in a run and shoot,” Heimuli said. “So having him as an older brother, I’m grateful for that because that’s someone I can look up to and trust.”
“Just giving him how you went through things and tell them how you went through it and what could have been better about how you could have went through it,” Ashlock said. “That’s the biggest thing that we understand, you know what I mean?”
Heimuli had a standout senior year at Trinity High School in Texas last season and is looking to find his way into the UH offense.
“I feel like I can run any route in the route tree, red zone, 60 yards out, anywhere, any situation,” Heimuli said. “So that’s all I want to work to be is a full around player, full around wide receiver.”
While Pofele is anticipating the moment he and his brother take the field together against Delaware State.
“I really visualize these things, staying present within the days, but it’s coming soon,” Ashlock said. “I’m ready for it when it comes and that moment is going to be special, I know it’s going to be special for my family back at home watching.”
The ‘Bows continue training camp through August.
