Man in custody after allegedly trying to hit HPD officer with stolen car in Ewa Beach
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A man is in custody after he allegedly tried to hit an HPD officer with a stolen car in Ewa Beach Monday night, officials said.
It happened on Auwaha Street around 11:30 p.m.
Authorities said officers observed a stolen vehicle in the Makakilo area and saw it come to a stop in the Ewa Beach area.
HPD said as officers walked toward the suspected stolen car, the driver of the vehicle “intentionally accelerated the vehicle and drove it towards an officer.”
Subsequently, officials said the officer fell on the car’s hood and sustained injuries. The extent of his injuries is unclear.
The driver of the vehicle faces a first-degree attempted murder on a law enforcement officer charge.
A passenger in the car was also arrested for stolen car and drug offenses.
Charges will be sought with the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney.
The investigation is ongoing.
