Artificial intelligence fire sensors deployed on Maui
HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Sixteen artificial intelligence sensors have been deployed to track wildfires that spark in West and South Maui, said County officials.
The County says its N5 shield program will monitor air conditions and send real-time alerts to the Maui Fire Department when it detects any changes that may indicate flames are spreading.
The system will work with HECO’s AlertWest fire detection camera system.
The system housing the sensors is designed to attach to utility poles or traffic lights and withstand all weather conditions.
MFD also has four mobile sensors for placement around active fires.
In March, The U.S. Department of Homeland Security said it would deploy 80 wildfire and 16 wind sensors across the state.
