HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - A gas leak shut down a portion of Dillingham Boulevard in Kalihi Monday morning after a HART contractor struck a gas line, officials said.

The gas leak was reported to HFD just after 9 a.m.

Firefighters on scene reported a “two gas line break.”

“The contractor followed all protocols and notified Hawaii Gas, the Honolulu Fire Department, and the Honolulu Police Department,” said HART CEO Lori Kahikina, P.E.

A portion of Dillingham Boulevard was shut down in both directions as crews repaired the break.

No evacuations were needed and no injuries reported.

Hawaii gas secured the leak around 10:30 a.m. and reopened the road by 3 p.m.

“HART and Hawaii Gas will continue to partner and work together as utility relocation construction continues,” Kahikina added.
